You can see this quite often when big companies revert unpopular decisions - the stuff they tried to get away with is perfectly legal (they made sure of that) but that does not mean it won't make a lot of people (your customers) angry with a big potential backslash.

Also some people did preorder the tablets after the crowdfunding campaign ended, which is probably legally binding. I can actually see a scenario where the people who preordered might get their devices sooner (or at all :P) than the people who joined the crowdfunding campaign.

Yeah, sounds sensible. I would go for nr. 2 BTW.
Right!

It is not-a-like-TOHKBD2-campaign or similar where a failure would have been accepted!
But it is a COMPANY who called for money.

Especially the Lastu cases and shipment costs are a non-discussable refund if wanted. And about device refund I guess an agreement could be: xx% off for development, rest for refund.

BUT I would choose option #2, too.

Yes wrong forum to pick such an apple centristic definition of smartphone. Sorry to mislead you.

But hey, i am so unfair and measure in market success, which came from convenience and a redefinition of the market.

Quote me in 10 years if you like: we will have no smartphone alikes anymore.
The display/device unification we witnessed over the past 10 years was only founded in technical limitations, namely missing wireless standards to effortlessly share an output to any screen.
Screens will be Screens again in my "convenince wins Vision".
Displaying content will happen wireless to multiple dumb screens in all sizes to match the current workflow all around us.

All i ever asked for is one personal trustworthy device for interaction and storage.
I did not ask to attach a battery hungry but always to small display to it, i already have them. All around me in every room and soon my glasses will have a subtile low energy HD beamer directly to my iris!.

And where is the most convenient place to have that master device.
Your wrist or a even more subtile place i lack the imgination to find.
Sailfish gestures would have been killer to operate on a watch and use its small display as a kind of trackpad mainly to operate what is happening on bigger screens with content.

The one thing that makes everyone look like a complete ***** when trying the half baked versions of watches or glasses we have now, is the user having to concentrate on what he is doing and detaches himself from the outside world for that time.

What i hate most about phones is that i constantly let them fall, have to search them and need at least one hand to operate.

Makers of Dick Tracey got it right decades ago.
Everything since then is a puny milestone on the way.

+1 to that.
On the same vein...
In my downtime this past year I've been working on a pair of leather and antler arm bands (leather form and strapping and protective antler top casing ) for the n900...
Wrist worn Smart _ _ _ nowaday?
It's not enough for me.
I still want that easy access.
But I want it all.
I concur Dick Tracy had it (almost) right.
Unfortunately anything with a screen size small enough for the wrist means even more attention must be paid to the display ...
meaning the same issue of withdrawal of attention from immediate surroundings.
(remember those very 1st wristworn tv's? I got one back in the day...it was great...but way too much serious focus was needed...displays are too small on the wrist.)
The larger the screen, the bigger the buttons, access and display, the less need to focus attentions away from day to day necessity.
The rough 1st armband case protos seemed to confirm that.

But Leela from Futurama was closer with her forearm Smartband comp.

Yeah right, I would probably say that they are investigating which luxury restaurant they will go after using our money...

Every word that guy and Lassila said, you can obviously tell that they are lying...

IGG tems of use are quite clear on that, but since we are dealing with crooks, no wonder they are not issuing a refund...

I think they eat lots of burgers @jolla. Can anyone confirm if they have discount @mcdonalds?

It's better than nothing. Now We just have to make sure they take responsibility for the troublet. If not we remind them until they do. They can't go on with sail without handle it properly.

Hope they share some solid ideas how this will be handled tomorrow.

Actually by donating to those so called organizations you are actually buying shoes. Maybe not Antti's but someone else... Look what happened with donations for Haiti when they where hit by natural disaster... They didn't get a dime, but those organizations use that money for their own benefit (private funds).

The founder of sosafrica lives about 5 minutes from here, I will just go and check his footwear.

I've read the irc log.

Good news but they've got an immense repair job to do now.

I'd hope that they give the tablet backers the choice to keep the tablet or get a total refund. By the time it ships the specs on the tablet are going to be a year old and you can buy intel BayTrail tablets using that hardware, maybe not the HD screen, for $50 these days.

He said they will have to decide about tablets.
And I do not know what could be easier/less troublesome for them.
But I am afraid they will go for the refund path.
Those tablets seem to not have been produced yet, except a 1k wave.

HW is old, probably not anymore available at all.
New HW designing / testing would need manpower / money.
HW support/warranty would be expensive.
And and and ...

But all is just foggy, so let's wait for official statement. Maybe tomorrow.
