Wikipedia knows. It was a hoax and, well, upset some people. Just a bit.

A penguin stuffed into a small (clear) box.

I wish I could draw.

The penguin would be smashed in there, but have a smile on it's face, to show that it's alright

That's what came to mind instantly when I saw this thread title.
Is this another request?! Do I have an excuse to play some more with the graphics tablet?!

hell yeah, I'm surprised you put it down.
I've been scribbling on a tablet since I picked it up.

if you enjoy drawing and sketching and doodling, never ever stop its therapeutic.

Lol I don't get much time to play with computer graphics Although I would love to do more along those lines^^ I mainly work with other medium, paint, pencil, charcoal, anything I can get my hands on... So I don't get a lot of time to work with my beautiful tablet...

Lol But most of the time I'm at a loss as to what to draw next I like it when people give me ideas^^ It gets my creative juices flowing!

...and some people keep them as pets (?)

Edit: Stumbled across this thread, thought I'd revive it and throw in some of my own thoughts.

Some of those ideas are interesting. I like the idea of something that's flying (kind of represents freedom or mobility of the platform).

I don't see pack animals used very often. People mentioned using the mask on a raccoon to match the letters in Maemo. You could also use a Husky or Malamute (they often have face masks). They could also represent teamwork, as they work well together in teams.

Personally, I would suggest wolf. They are also a pack animal like Malamutes and Huskies. Intelligent and Independent, but loyal to those their closest too. (Plus they're at the top of the food chain, just like Maemo ) Something like that cartoon picture linked to at the beginning of the thread (I've cleaned up the copyright stamp) or a fluffy mascot like how they drew Gabu in the anime 'One Stormy Night'.

I tried a little sketch with my old wacom tablet, see if you like it! I also did one of a husky.

I'm not sure if it would be a bad or good thing but having a fish as a mascot risk getting Maemo confusing with 'Finding Nemo'. That or maybe it would make the Maemo platform easier to remember because of the association of that movie.

I found a website that listed what the last two species tend to represent in cultures around the world: Salmon - Instinct, persistence, determination, wisdom, inspiration, rejuvenation.
Wolf - Loyalty, success, perseverance, stability, thought, pathfinder, teacher, intuition, learning, the shadow.

I like the idea of the salmon. Salmon are known for swimming upstream, for going against the tide. Embracing Open Source in a world becoming more controlled or closed (Android = controlled, iphone = closed) is... swimming upstream.

(I'll avoid commenting that when the new generation is created the current salmon dies... )
