Near as I can tell, the wifi hotspot is part of the stock firmware. Googling should give several hits on this as well. The Optimus V is only a mid-level device, 600Mhz cpu.

But, the longer I have my tablet, the less I use my N900 except as a phone. It's rather tempting to perhaps sell it while there is still a market, and go this route. I'd save $15+taxes a month, get messaging, lose a couple minutes. Only question would be porting my number.

I'd also get the advantage of running the same apps (mostly) on both devices (including paid apps). Tempting.

Very interesting!

It seems that Samsung is continuing to market the 7" Tab with a new advert:

I'm still seriously betting that the Tab will get honeycomb as it's being actively advertised with the 8.9 and 10.1" model.

Hello, What is this?!

Could this be the 8.9" Tab?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P170BOd3M7U

Check it out at 4 seconds in!

It looks to be long and tall, but maintains the single handed grip of the 7". Quite bold indeed, whatever it is! If you pause, you can tell it's not a distorted video.

I've been thinking, and unintuitively, a 7" screen may actually be larger than a ~10" screen during regular use.

How is this possible? A 7" screen is *much* more likely to be held closer to your face, where as a 10" tablet is destined to rest on your lap or a table. The difference in actual size (based on perspective) may indeed tilt the scale in the favour of the 7" screen. Interestingly, the resolution remains roughly equivalent in the case of the Tab and the iPad.

During normal use, my 4.3" N810 covers the area of ~9" of a 15" screen held at around 10" from my face (the 15" screen is ~20" from my face)*. Now, the touch targets relative to my thumb are far smaller on this screen, but would be far larger and more comfortable on a 7".
* yes, I measured this

7" may be a much more ideal size in practice and simultaneously much more mobile than a 10" screen. In fact the illusion of larger screen may result in a smaller viewport in the end.

I'd really like to see some data on this.. I wonder if Samsung's engineers discovered this when choosing the size. If true, it would have made a wonderful marketing bullet.

Absolutely lovely.

Onlive is heading to Android really, really, soon. Here it is on the HTC Flyer (7" tablet FWIW), and the EVO outed to TV! AMAZING!:

What's even better is that Onlive has come to Canada!

This will taste great with my Canadian bacon and maple syrup, eh?

Why am I excited? Because I will be able to play things like this:

and this....

on my tablet, PC and TV without skipping a beat or having to invest in thousands in hardware and software.
