Done! I went out and bought a Nook Color tonight and I'm going to FLASH this mother***er.

Actually, I've been meaning to get another tablet to give to my mom so that she can use it to listen and watch podcasts and have a little computer to use everywhere to keep track of income/expenses, etc. She REALLY doesn't want and doesn't need a phone-based device (although she would have liked GPS--but I think I may have a way to get it to do GPS... I'm going to do some experimenting with a bluetooth GPS dongle).

I said it elsewhere on TMO... this is a terrible marriage. A faltering hardware manufacturer and ANOTHER failing platform to replace their already-failing platform... the two worst flavors that go even worse together, in my opinion.

Got the Nook Color. Rooted it. Installed Softkeys, Google apps, LauncherPro on it. Too easy. Bored.
Going to get out a 16GB microSD card tomorrow to install Honeycomb on it.

Have been contemplating just this scenario.... Keep us informed of your progress with the BT GPS please!

Thanks

Matt

PS

I too have to echo the sentiment expressed earlier: I only seem to visit TMO anymore for this thread

...and the occasional Diablo thread....

@Dan,

There are at least a couple bluetooth GPS apps that allow you to connect an external bluetooth GPS. I used two of them in Nitdroid with good results.

One was Bluetooth GPS Mouse (free and paid versions) and the other is Bluetooth GPS (free).

Hold on if you flash honey comb on the Nook Color do you get the Google apps like gmail, Google maps, etc?

If so that would be super incredible. The wife wants to get a kindle. If Nook can function fully as a tablet then will try to convince her to get that instead. Don't think it is available in the UK though.

Just as I feared. The big casualty in this is MeeGo. Nokia's
Nokia's direct focus on R&D investment in MeeGo is decimated.

I mean, if it is as good as dead then why not just kill it and be done?
