Like I said, I don't think that the bandwidth is the problem. I think the caps are the problem. Knowing what I know about networking, backbones, NAP'ss/MAE's and peering arrangements (remember, I used to be a Senior Network Engineer and worked in Silicon Valley for a couple of large ISP's that provided Internet service to the entire US, Canada and Japan when they existed). I know the technical limitations aren't the problem--it's based purely on business case and placation to certain other industries that don't like dumb-pipe Internet providers.

Hahaha.. That's actually what I meant!

As it turns out, I've been using the word bandwidth incorrectly to imply not only the amount data per unit of time, but also amount of data available per month. In a perfect world I suspect that the concepts would be equivalent -- eg. the unit of time extended to one month rather than a second. But as you point out, artificial 'caps' limit available data passed a point regardless of rate and get in the way of such a usage.

Missing with titanium backup pro......i missed up tablet.

I uninstall one off those analog clocks.....now everytime I install a new app; I have to reboot before I could see the icon.

The real problem is that I reset to factory rom under settings and my tab didn't really reset.......my device was already rooted.

QUESTION: how do I get this thing back to the way I got it from the store?
Factory reset means resetting your SETTINGS to factory settings--it has nothing to do with reinstalling the software/firmware state. For that you would need to flash the ROM with the OS image or use Samsung's app that flashes the entire device firmware.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a Samsung application called Odin that use a PIT (image file) for your particular device to restore everything to factory state. But I would HIGHLY recommend NOT doing this or only doing it as a very, last resort (i.e. you're already bricked).

By the by.. everyone might get a kick out of this site, which I hadn't noticed before: http://www.galaxyroot.com/
Thanks a lot!

I called samsung. They wanted me to send my tab to them to be flashed.....that's a no no.....i can't go 7 days without my baby!

Checking out xda for the original rom!

Well I finally took the plunge and ordered a Tab!

I know the timing might seem strange with all these new tablets coming out but I have a cunning plan.

I will use the Tab for a few months, then get the Tab 2, then give the Tab 1 to the missus so she can use it to watch BBC iplayer etc.

Arrives tomorrow, can't wait!

These new tablets look great! But there all 9 to 10 inchs!

The only 7 inch so far.....that I would buy..... is the tab 2.

That G Slate looks SWEEEETTTTTTT!

AM starting to save now....just in case!

One thing that I love about Android is the app integration and mashups, which is something that isn't talked about much (does this exist in iOS beyond core apps?).

During the Android 3.0 demo yesterday, the CNN app showed how easy it was to use the official camera app to upload photos/video to the iStory functionality in their amazing looking application. Basically, clicking a button called the camera app, which then led seamlessly back to the application upon completion. In another demo, the market was called from a disney app for in-app purchase and again it was seamless.

I wonder if it's possible to provide in-app integration outside of Google's official apps?

While the XOOM looks really nice, I'm still a fan of the Tab's form factor and specs. The XOOM screen boasts a most impressive resolution (1280x800 -- just below the number of pixels that most laptops push!), but it seems that the Tegra is almost at its limit driving these pixels, as there is a tiny bit of stutter in full-screen animations. Still, incredibly impressive from a hardware perspective.

By virtue of the powerful GPU in the Tab and the lower resolution, I suspect Honeycomb will run very smoothly on the Tab with enough real-estate to comfortably interact.

Take a look at Honeycomb on the nook color to get an idea of how it will look on the Tab!

Laptopmag has done a very good job at the Honeycomb event. Here are some videos of interesting apps. Most impressive!

This video shows the fragments in much more detail. The fragments can not only be vertical panes, but also horizontal/grid like layouts. A good one to watch!

IMNSHO, Honeycomb is a major step forward for Android. The UI seems much more cohesive than previous versions, but it's easy to see that they are still incredibly flexible in addition to this. They are also very smooth.

Here's an interesting article on a user (K. Tofel of jkontherun) dumping the iPad for the Tab based mostly on the 7" form factor:

http://gigaom.com/mobile/why-i-just-...-size-matters/

Interesting read.

I think that right now, the OS (whether true or not) seems to be the feature that gives the iPad an edge over the Tab for a large portion of the community. People seem to love the 7" form factor of the device and its not surprising that this feature alone makes it worthy of competition despite the 'phone' OS. Honeycomb on the Tab would reclaim that lost edge, and pave the way for future devices. Samsung would be well advised to provide an upgrade strategy for the 2M Tabs out there, or risk alienating a large part of its userbase and having a very vocal community actively act against their marketing efforts.

To follow up on this post. It seems that the low-cost handsets are coming and coming fast:

FTA:
Brian Modoff from Deutsche Bank Equity Research
By 2013, we expect 1 GHz smartphones to be available for $100. The combination of a $0 license for Android and the steady march of Moore’s Law could translate into $100 smartphones by late 2012 or early 2013. At that point, we think even the average emerging markets’ consumer shift their purchase sharply away from feature phones to smartphones, posing a serious challenge to companies such as Nokia without a clear strategy for low-end operating systems.
The bottom line? Nokia better start competing quickly as their marketshare is seriously being threatened.
