Wasn't this phone running Belle on the leaked pics? Is Elop persistently trying to kill products that are not running WP7 before release?

One reason that comes to mind is that Nokia saved on the BOM by not including the external Broadcom GPU so everything is rendered using the CPU only. The CPU is probably the same ARM11 that is used in all S^3 phones only overclocked to 1GHz.

If this is the case, then even the N900 is more powerful than this phone.

The phone has the same GPU as the N8. The lag that you see on the facebook app is due to it being a wrt client. Symbian Anna can't run without GPU, and they need a GPU that's same or better. It will run all current apps and games.

It does not have GPU period:

http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devic...fications/500/
Only arm11 clocked at 1ghz.

Seems like this is the most low-end symbian anna smartphone. Replacement for s60v5 phones that are still on the market.

I think it's a useless model. All smartphones should have gpu.

Well it can't run Anna without a GPU. Symbian^3, Anna, Belle are all using GPUs to render the UI. Coverflow is GPU accelerated. This phone has the same GPU at the very least.

EDIT: There are 3D games in the video reveal. Nokia is heavily advertising the 1GHz CPU, so no mention of a GPU, but it has the same broadcom gpu.

Phonearena specs say yes for the GPU

On the same Nokia page the X7 is said to have OpenGL accelerator but on the Nokia 500 spec sheet it is absent. Might be due to the device being just revealed or not...
