Just remove the SIM and you will see this symbol.

Poor contact of SIM card ?! You might want to try to clean the contact pad of SIM first .....

the icon show you two thing...

1.no SIM card inserted....
2.there a problem with your SIM card (inserted but unable to be read)

solutions....
1.take out you SIM card & bend it a little bit....re-inserted it & restart...
2. take out the battery & place a small paper above the SIM card holder & place back the battery & restart....

This icon does not necessarily mean that there is any problem with your phone or sim card - it may just be a reception problem.

I get this icon intermittently in my office at work where the building interferes with cell phone and wi-fi signals into and out of the building.

As soon as I go outside, where there is good reception, the warning icon disappears and the phone works fine.

So check it's not just a signal issue first, before fiddling with the hardware and software.

This happens if u reflashed ur n900 with an OLDER firmware (downgrade).... thats incse its not the sim problem.
if its not the sim just reflash it with the latest fw and it should work normaly again

Judging by ALL the same replys on here, I'd hazard a guess at a faulty sim card Surley no more replys are needed. Apart from my observation
