Interesting - and perhaps indicative that those suggesting pricing is important are correct - Snapdeal are already offering a discount on their discount. The Jolla is down to 14499 rupees (€188)

Bluefoot is clearly biased. Many people are unsatisfied? I beg to differ. The stats clearly show that many people are satisfied: https://twitter.com/reviewjolla/stat...55349262090240 They don't lie, you know.

Or they are doing well and Snapdeal wants to up the sales? Like I said earlier: who says that Jolla is responsible? Snapdeal could very well be the one who came up with the idea of a discount and are subsidizing the phone. Snapdeal is an independent company from Jolla so they can price it whatever they want. Just like, say, Amazon.

May be Jolla isn't doing good so snapdeal decided to give a discount. No ads , nothing on national T.V , people never knew about n900, n9 and i think Jolla will have the same fate.

@vistaus
And that is why the mainstream popular devices like the iphone are so cheap?
Naw ...it's about ..."what the market can bear"...
If any goods are coveted by a population....the price doesn't plummet.
The price goes up.
All the layers of the Industries all-around want to make some coin.
From the manufacturer right down to the retailer.

In general...Comments by members outside the geographic region purely running on their passion or lack of desire for a jolla and their own personal take on the sitch is really deviating.
The answer is coming from our members at ground zero...in India.
And what they are seeing and reporting back to our community is :
1- It has been poorly marketed.
(Whether this is Jollla's and/ or the marketing agencies/ distributors in India fault would be interesting to see who dropped the ball. Mind...In the end it is inevitably Jolla's decision as to the who and how their marketing campaign was to be done)
2- India's consumer base don't want / aren't interested in the Jolla for a variety of reasons...which have been voiced by said community members in India....(walking, talking, getting feedback from friends, neighbours, family, peers, business associates...etc. does give a good "grass-roots" spectrum of the desires of a localized region.
3- This is showing in the pricing.
(and yes there is the possibility the price is being manipulated via subsidization to make it more consumer appealing ...there are alot of possibles...but in the end the truth will rest in hard-core physical numbers of retail sales to consumers. Not how many were bought in bulk by a business or company for resale...or what middleman discounted what by how much. The data on how many consumers purchased will illumine.)
I think it paramount to listen to the local voice of community members "on the ground" in their region...and not discount, ignore or argue over the info they are passing on to us.
In essence they are the "regionally embedded maemo journalists" of our community ...providing us with a microscope view of the the sitch.

And now back to Maemo news on Vancouver Island...
wait a sec...
can you hear that?...
the lone sound of 1 of the 12 n800's on the Island starting up.
Back to you at the newsroom Bob

Ad for n900: okay, that's a shame.
Ad for n9: why would they have bothered? N9 was doomed before it hit the market anyway. Nokia announced that they'd discontinue MeeGo before the N9 went up for sale so...
Jolla: well, they aren't a marketing company. But I really do believe that Snapdeal is subsidizing them. Why else would it be discounted only in India? If Jolla really wanted to up sales, then I'd expect them to cut at least *some* of the European price as well.

if they have that comfortable margins to be flexible with pricing they might want to consider dropping the prices in europe.

they might find they get a whole bunch of new sales...

Let's say that it is true. But what Snapdeal gets out from it? What are other possible revenues from Jolla? Snapdeal is private, right? So, maybe the owner(s) likes the idea behind Jolla and he has and is willing to spare some cash to make it happen. Or maybe he (them) invested in Jolla itself so this is the way to make something out of it, offering phone for a low (or not) price to make it maybe at least a bit interest to people in India.
Or maybe Jolla was overcharging EU customers x5 from the begining? Very unlikely unles they ordered some 10+M of phones in advance.
What we do know is that we don't know anything why it it like it is now. But also, whoever from EU was/is interested in Jolla and is aware of this probably feels stupid now and won't jump the gun.
