hello,

i've like the boot vid, and i want it to, but how can i do this:

Instructions:

1- Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
2- Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file or create a similar one (the videos will play by the alphabetic order of the .conf files)

Hoe can i copy it to usr/share/hildon-welcome/media???

"As a matter of fact the hildon-welcome is fully configurable.
You don't need to remove/replace the Nokia hands animation file to add your own animation or sound to the startup. Hildon-welcome supports unlimited number of "logo animations" (either video or image+sound) in sequence. It reads all configuration files in the hildon-welcome.d folder and interprets them in alphabetical order. "

Instructions:

1- Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media

can someone pls explain how i find these files on my n900 ? i do not see a directory that contains the startup video.. do i have to install additional software to see it or something ?

I only tested the one with audio. First shrieking is a bit loud, maybe too high.

Paulhax, heres a quick rundown of what I just did to replace the video. You can do it one of two ways, but I prefer using the remote login via winscp method, so I'll explain that one (the other one requires copying files via xterm I believe, so we'll do this )

Make sure you're on a wireless network with a pc.
1. Go into the extras repositories and download rootsh as well as OpenSSH Server.
2. Open up xterm (it will ask you to enter a password here, remember it youll need it), type in the following two commands:
Code:
sudo rootsh
ifconfig

Look for the ip address of the n900 (usually a 192.168 number)
3. download winscp from the internet onto your computer
4. Host name: The IP address of the n900
user name: root
password: The password you put in xterm.

5. In winscp, look for the /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media folder.
6. Copy your video from your pc into that folder.
7. Once copied, switch to the /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ directory.
8. Edit the default.conf file to be the name of the video you added.

And you're done!

I know theres a few extra steps (you dont REALLY need to ssh into your n900 to do this), but like I said, for those not comfortable with xterm, its probably easier and more in friendly territory for now.

Please thank Elvind from a few pages previously in this thread. He was who I learned it from
