Yeah I hear yah and mostly agree. However I don't think mainline was the original intent of neo900, it was my understanding that it was only the hardware that is compatible with Maemo 5. The mainline was a possibly once the maemo-leste project got footing.

But splitting hairs at this point

I'm starting to rethink my preorder, thinking of canceling it and waiting a few months until the teething issues have been ironed out.

That and my N900 still works fine, it's not like I absolutely need a new phone.

I am on the other side: my 5th N900 is already dying on me with the same old 'all telephony functions disabled' BS!

Would have a last backup but I do not see the future ...

BUT what is the future?
Is it the Pro1 with *Android* or SFOS (or Leste)
Is it Xperia XA2 with SFOS?
Is it Gemini PDA?

I do not know.
Keeping my fun device with JollaC.
But I need now a working unit, I have here:
N900 (best, but too slow, old, small screen)
N9
N950(not really an option)
Jolla 1 (hmm)
Jolla C
XA2Plus (''new'' HW, but SFOS/android not fully working, too bulky)
Gemini PDA (way too bulky, Debian and ofono?)

I really do not know ...
(sorry for noise, offtopic?)

Yep, in a nutshell: there's stuff about the new screen (as Chen mentioned here), some other stuff about the homescreen being tweaked (but since it's about Android, I don't care), some (good ?) work being done on SFOS (yay !), and the german going crazy because they want a QWERTZ keyboard (hell, I'm french and I'm perfectly fine with QWERTY...).

PLEASE please please tell me that back cover is rubberized or a soft touch finish
With phone dimensions, this thing will need all the grip it can get

just pick something......... https://www.esedirect.co.uk/s-317-an...pes-paint.aspx
At least it's not glass on the back so it can't be THAT slippery. I never used any kind of those phone condoms but with XZ2 that is a MUST HAVE.
