after the university switched to exchange for its email, I find that on the N900 my new emails are not retrieved when I am connected over wifi (yes, I do press the send/receive button). When I switch to broadband, everything is fine. There have been no changes to the wifi settings or firewall. What could be the case?

No, that does not describe the problem. And I can *read* older messages on the imap server; it just does not retrieve newer ones.
