Well from what I know and remember , all bugs in bugzilla related to tearing were marked WONTFIX and some people said its fixed in Harmattan. It was related specifically to closed source GPU drivers hence community was unable to find a solution.

btw did you notice that in portrait mode tearing is ore noticeable ? Oh and as for the hildon-desktop I think they just got rid of it

Heh... I just noticed that. Looks like the SGX driver is closed source. How annoying.

I haven't checked in portrait mode but I will take a look.

Yes, it is. However, if you get the fix the tearing in Xorg, we could very probably fix 3D tearing. What is needed for that is mostly open.

Seems that it has been fixed in Meego:

Though I don't know if it would be possible to backport it.
