Hey
I have a N900 and love it.
Its managed to update fine untill now.
In the App Manager there is an update that comes up each day called Maemo 5. Details - Improvement performance etc.

I believe this is PR1.3?
It says I can only update it using my PC. Tried that, and it doesn't work.
So I looked into flashing it and updating from there.

I follow this info for Windows http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...ng_your_device

I type in the Comand prompt and press enter and nothing happens to the device. And on screen the Comand prompt also doesnt change.

I'm not very technical in this way and don't know what else to do
Please help.

The images to download are
PR1.3 - RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin & RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin.
Hope it helps.

The commands to be run in the maemo flasher are,
"flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin -f"

then without rebooting or switching on the N900 run THIS LINE

"flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R"

All with out the [ " " ]

Downloaded the images.
Saved them in ProgramFiles-Maemo-Flasher-3.5
I open flasher-3.5 and type in the command
"flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin -f"

Press enter
And the command prompt just returns to
C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5
And nothing happens.

Any ideas? :s

which os is ur pc? this didnt work for me in winxp. try Win7 also pls dont use the " inverted comas along with the commands.

Press and hold U button in the n900 key board and connect it with the pc .Keep holding the button until u see NOKIA logo with out the back light and the usb icon on the top right corner. then release the U button and run the command in maemo flasher.

Good luck.

Hey,
Tired it again last night and at last, I've done it!!!
I think I either missed out some things in the command like -f at the end. And possibly typed the command wrong or something.
But its all sorted now and I'm in the process of adding contacts/photos etc from the backup
Thanks so much for your help, wouldn't have done it otherwise!
Ben.

I have a question:
I flashed my N900 yesterday, but only with the command with -f -R at the end - than, the system automaticly updated Maemo via Wifi, and everything works fine - so why should I flash it with both lines?

I tihink I read somewhere on here that the 1st command clears everything to factory default. And the 2nd is only certain areas. So using both command completely resets the phone. Thats only how i understood it, someone correct me if i'm wrong :\

flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin -f
The above cmd flashes the softwares installed and rootfs of ur mob but keeps all ur files, pics, videos data, phone book, sms etc intact.

flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
This cmd flashes the phone completely. It will be as new as u brought it.

More over, -f means flashing only
-R means reboot after flashing.
