HI guys, I've got my n900 connected to my laptop (using xp) and I've connected to xbox live. The problem is that my NAT settings are set to strict so I can't fully participate in the online experience.
I've scoured the web but no one seems to be using their n900 as a modem to connect to xbox live.

Any help would be great.

If you're trying to use the 3G connection from your laptop via the N900, the NAT is almost certainly being done by your service provider (check the IP address on your phone - it'll be a private one), so you have absolutely no way of controlling that.

I've had a look at that wiki, but to be honest I don't know for sure what I'm looking at, I'm pretty new to using a laptop.
Is there nothing I can do because I'm using the n900's 3G connection?

Run "/sbin/ifconfig gprs0" and look at the "inet addr" reported there - if it starts with 10, 192.168, or 172.16 - 172.31 then it's a private network and being NATed by your service provider. In this case, there's probably nothing that you can do without having specialised applications for the service you're trying to use.

this is what I got
inet addr:10.112.247.66 P-t-P:10.112.247.66 Mask:255.255.255.255

Is it bad news?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network
10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255

These are the private networks. The IP address on the phone is a private one, the NAT is performed on the other end i.e. provider side. You can`t do nothing to change NAT settings, except contact them but I reaaly doubt that this will help.

Yep - that's starting with 10, so is a private network (most 3G connections are - there's just not enough IP addresses available) and will be NATed by O2/Vodafone/whoever.
