[QUOTE=Matan;694875]Is there anything in dmesg?

Hi, great thread, I am a long time 770/810 user, always tethered to my ATT 3g, just got my 900.. Almost working but I am getting the
Illegal instruction also. Nothing unusual in dmesg.

<snip>
[97333.445709] PPP generic driver version 2.4.2

I pulled and reinstalled both ppp and your dun-client package.
My rfcomm connection is stable and working as expected, the failure is in the call gprs script.

<snip>
send (ATD*99***1#^M)
expect (CONNECT)
^M
ATD*99***1#^M^M
CONNECT
-- got it

Illegal instruction
Nokia-N900-51-1:~#

Any other ideas? Thanks again Matan for posting such great info...!
regards
JimS

Are you using PR1.2 kernel with my modules? That might be the problem. I suggest installing kernel-power which includes working ppp modules.

Not sure what I have yet.. it is a new 900 (yesterday), did the maemo5 update right away.

uname -a
Linux Nokia-N900-51-1 2.6.28-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Thu Apr 15 09:47:09 EEST 2010 armv7l unknown

from "Product info:"
Maemo 5
version 10.2010 19-1.002

<edit>
So,..went ahead with install kernel-power-flasher and kernel-power
<snip>
Linux Nokia-N900-51-1 2.6.28.10power37 #1 PREEMPT Wed May 26 00:24:03 EEST 2010 armv7l unknown

and now...my 2 scripts work great!! (rfcomm..and pppd call..etc)

I see 'orange' in the 'internet connections' screen, but so far, havent been able to make the gui work...scripts work though and I can work with that.. THANKS MATAN..YOU ROCK!!

now to explore the joys of whatever the kernel-power will let me do..

Hello, just checking in to see if there is any way to get this done for a non-techie. I can tell just by reading the back-and-forth that it looks beyond my technical capabilities. I have been itching to replace my N810 with an N900, but I want to get internet through BT DUN from my Sprint Blackberry 3G. Prices continue to drop for the N900 but the BT DUN issue still has me hesitating......

Is there an open bug for this I can track/vote on?

Worked for me after installing the power kernel from the extras repository. pppd was crashing before I did that. But the new pppd in the power kernel is stable.

Matan, thanks buddy for all your effort and help on this thread.

It's very easy. When I have more time, I'll add an updated step by step guide here.

Experimenting....
Thought I would move my sim card from my 3g Razr over to the 900...granted, I know the 900 will not work on 3g for ATT but it works fine on 2.5g.
Having the phone functions all working in the 900 is a bonus.

What I found is the data speed is actually better than tethering to my 3g razr, probably due to the terrible ATT 3g performance around here...another benefit is that my N810 will still tether to the N900 just fine, also, my laptop tethers to the 900 fine too.. Kinda nice!

2.5g speed..almost 1m down and 300k up..I can live with that..skype still works...Google video chat works too.
Love the 900 and Maemo5!
