Music streaming works (pretty) well --- but video streaming is a mess.

I tried to stream a standard xvid and divx files --- and I get the audio but just a black screen.

So, for starters - has anyone been able to actually stream video from their home network through the media player on the n900?

And, if so, can you give me any tips.

Thanks.

please post your settings:
video: container, codec, resolution, fps, bitrate

OK, let's start with the Bad Lieutenant -- good ole Harvey Keitel.

VIDEO Xvid / 23 fps / 912 kbps

AUDIO 193 kbps / stereo / 48 khz

The audio streams fairly well - the video is black - but the black isn't true black - so I can see the letterbox around where the video should be.

I transferred the file itself to my n900 and it plays perfectly.

Thanks.

I streamed a 32kbit audio stream from my local public radio station.

mpeg files seem to stream perfectly ... wmv files stream for like 3-4 seconds and some type of error pops up. The avi files fail everytime to stream, doesn't matter what type of container.

SD.. 704x400

So, the file is sitting on a drive on my PC - your basic home network. It seems like it should be a no-brainer.

The file is sitting on my drive. On the N900 I use the basic media player which recognizes my shared folders. Am I missing a step?

this is a bug that was introduced in pr1.1. I'm too lazy to look up the bug number but from the comments on the bug report this occurs using several different media servers and happens on several different types of video codecs. Long story short: either roll back to the old firmware or hold out for the next update.

edit: heres the bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8000
