hi all sorry if this is a dumb question, my "about product" screen says
"maemo linux based os2008" followed by
version: 2.2007.51-3
is there a newer os available for my N810?

thanks

hey thanks upgrade went without a hitch.
wondering one thing though: prior to upgrade, when i locked the device it would dim then immediately the lcd went off... now, though, it dims but then remains on for the 30-second lcd timeout before going completely off. i prefer it switch off right away.
any suggestions?

I looked up the options on the device and I'd have to say no for now. I don't think there's a way to configure that, but I don't quite know the device as well as some others here do. I think it's part of the new OS update and can not be changed, but I'll let someone else that knows more than me about it for sure.

Still, glad you were able to upgrade to the latest version easily! ^_^

MoreDimmingOptions sounds like what you want
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/O...immingoptions/

The good thing about it is that you can change when the screen dims and shuts off depending on whether your on power or battery.

@ DanielT :

Another possibility, I think:
(N 810, latest OS)

I have autolock (v. 0.3.1) installed.
When I cover the light sensor (shoving the nit into it's case) the tablet locks and the screen immediately goes dark.
Autolock is disabled(enabled) with the manual switch.
( Locking again manually immediately darkens the screen.
Occasionally the screen stays on during screen timeout, I do not know why.)

Sorry about that !
I have no idea why.
( My N810 has had autolock for months without problems.)

EDIT .
Just found this .http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...8&postcount=12
with a google search.
Confirms your experience.
I've noticed no bad battery life myself, but I will uninstall autolock and compare.

Just found this out :
Setting the two timeouts "Brightness period" and "Switch off display" in the menu of "Display" in the control panel
to the same value (30sec/1min/2min)
makes the screen go dark immediately on sliding the lock slide.
