There's a great and convenient execution of that in BrentDC's Quick Clip Viewer; he toggles scrolling/selecting with a toolbar button. I *know* to hold down the menu button, but I find it very awkward.

Another thought on toggling kinetic scrolling ... would turning it off allow drag scrolling of the map in Google Maps? Currently the only browser on the tablet that this works in is Midori/Easy Debian, which scrolls only using the scrollbar. (I guess that the drag scrolling in Hildon conflicts with whatever AJAX magic Google is using?)

Probably. Try with menu key held down for a test.

Why, yes it does. Very nice. Tap-and-zoom in works as well.

Given the kinetic nature of Tear, I'd like throw out there a feature request for more gestures (based on Mauku's framework and behaviors)

- half-circle clockwise (bottom to top) to go to the top of a page
- half-circle counter clockwise (top to bottom) to go to the bottom of a page
- drag right then down over a hyperlink to automatically open in a new window
- drag right then up over a hyperlink to copy it to clipboard then open the email app automatically (bonus points for pasting the link into the email body)
- drag left then up over the URL bar to add the RSS of that site to your RSS reader

Just some thoughts

In stead of option turning it off, how about put an option of magnitude of kinetic, like very fast, not so fast, or dead like a nail, like a sliding bar for kinetic effect. Just a thought

I like the feature of holding the menu key to stop scrolling. A toolbar button would require 2 additional taps, one to turn it on and one to turn it off. Navigating to a menu option would even be more inconvenient.

Press and hold menu key, select text, release menu key. How can it get any easier than that!

Not saying it isnt easy, its just that I rarely ever scroll using my finger, usually always have the stylus out when browsing. I was wondering, what would the possibility be of not having scrollbars at all, but instead, just dragging in the area they would be in...is that at all in the realm of possibility?

As a matter of fact, the kinetic looked cool, but is very annoying when one using small text size, they jump all over the place. It is alright if one using font size over 24! I still think an option to scale the magnitude of kinetics will please EVERYBODY, if technically feasible.
