I've been using USB control for ages now, and it's working fine!!

Last night however it told me that I had an update for it. So I went to install it, but it won't let me! it says that the are "some application packages required for the update are missing".

I took a screen shot of the thing missing because they don't mean a lot to me and I have no idea where to find them!

What I don't understand is how I can be running it with out these?

I also can't find these things to install them to do the update!

A little help would really be appreciated!

Hmmm... there are two things I can think of. First, make sure you have extras enabled. I'm not sure if you're trying to update from extras or extras-devel (could you post the version number it wants to update to?) If it's extras-devel, disable extras-devel and ignore the update. It won't be there anymore If it's extras, there seems to be a problem with the package. python isn't actually a package, but that doesn't explain it complaining about python-dbus and python-hildon, both of which ARE packages.

Otherwise, you probably don't have extras enabled. Try adding:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras
free non-free
(leave blank)
To your applicaiton manager and see if it installs then. If you don't have extras, you probably have extras-devel, which you should disable (it could really screw things up)

Tou can try to download the .deb installer file and then:

sudo dpkg -i xxxxxx.deb

If this results in an error you can also try

sudo apt-get -f install

to force the libraries being installed.

Note: if you are ssh'ing (command line) as root you can omit the sudo of course.

Bug in the packaging.

If, by any chance, konttori, you see this:
Change "Depends: python, python-dbus, python-hildon" to "Depends: python2.5 | python (>=2.5), python2.5-dbus | python-dbus, python2.5-hildon | python-hildon"

Following a poke by krisse, I asked konttori to upload it to extras-devel for diablo; but there are two bugs I'm aware of which I've emailed him about:
  1. Section: user/multimedia (should be user/system)
  2. Dependency problems, as above.

I'll make him aware of this thread.

I'm having the same problem. I'll just wait for konttori to fix it, i guess.

EDIT: i'm not sure why i need the update anyway.... i've never experienced problems with USBcontrol....

Me neither, although I still haven't solved the inexplicable umlaut problem

This is a issue i keep seeing with python based projects ever so often. Often enough that i'm wondering what may be the cause...

I don't know what possessed someone to put the version number in the unixname... Theoretically, to have more than one Python installed?
