What is the difference of this and the months old stuff on youtube? It's the same old reference design nobody wants. And seing how laggy Android runs on it, I think there are bottlenecks somewhere. Does it have a second level cache?

Archos's next tablet will be OMAP3-based (OMAP3440) and will be sporting the Android platform.

Maybe that's why they got all cozy with Opera

EDIT: Another thing that occured to me is that given NVidia's background, they might be shooting for more specialised devices here (and try to throw it at phone and MID markets in the process to see if it sticks). For example I could very much envision a next-gen GP32X, PSP (or ngage, gasp ) style gadget with tegra - low power, cheap, probably very good all around GPU performance, good video output, sufficient horsepower for generic tasks...

Archos' current generation is pretty much all OMAP3, but that doesn't help it all that much (apart from the fancy transitions/navigation, that is).

Er, what? Shred of proof of what? The OMAP4 is at least 2 years down the road, so you can safely ignore it for now.

As far as the OMAP3, people have plenty of devices using OMAP3 in their hands (Archos 5, Beagle Board, Pandora prototypes, and various OMAP3 development kits, etc.) since 2007, so it's not exactly difficult to judge how it'll perform. Tegra, on the other hand, has yet to ship anything.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about here, really.

The Tegra isn't "on par" with either the OMAP3 or the OMAP4. It's somewhere between an OMAP2 and an OMAP3.

Um? What? Nokia's announced their general plans for the next tablets hardware (OMAP3, HD camera, HSPA) and we've been able to divine more information about the hardware based on the Fremantle pre-alphas. What's the problem here? :\

$700???

Dell had a Mini 9 for sale at $199 on President's Day and it has been available for $185 with discount codes.

Knowing nvidia, there will be no free software (with source) drivers for this thing, so it'll be an expensive brick ($99 is still too much for a brick) after a year or so.
Just like the n8x0.
At least nokia is promising that the "latest and greatest" (tm) will be open, though it won't cost $99.

Yeah, there's a valid comparison. What closed drivers are you complaining about? WiFi?

I think what he meant was anything that is comparable in size to the n8x0 is running around $700. Either that or just exaggerating a bit.

Please tell me what "MID" means to you, in your own words.
