Another very interesting post here about another solution that might be offered by F(x)tec themselves: long press on letter opens a pop-up with special characters.

I personnaly prefer a true US-intl layout, with remapped keys and dead keys (hopefully sticky), but their solution would be good for many non-nerdy users, and would make the fixed hardware layouts a lesser issue for people speaking other languages.

Really hope US-intl with dead keys *and* a pop-up solution can both work in Sailfish.

There isn't an "Allies" Forum (yet). Hmm -- maybe there should be. It doesn't quite belong in "Sailfishes" (also yet, I hope) either.

On the flip side, it is a rather one-of-a-kind product these days.

So ya, maybe there should be a forum where devices that could run some form of Sailfish -- but don't have to and maybe don't out of the box -- could be discussed.

That mid-September date would be amazing. Off on 3 week vacation to Japan on the 20th, would-be such great tool to bring.

I'm rooting for you all!

How well does the camera work though? Does it focus well/fast?

The post you quoted followed an event in Germany in early August. Check more recent reports after the NY event, specifically this part:

How is autofocus speed? (time between half-press of camera button and focus lock)

xman
Pretty fast. But everything is faster than my n900.

Gravewell
It's pretty subtle but it focuses pretty fast. I'd say less than a second. Be forewarned that i'm not much of a photo person.

How is the shutter lag? (time between full press of camera button and photo taken, after focus locked)

xman
They are still working on optiumization of the camera. But it seemed pretty fast.

Gravewell
Shutter lag is about 1-2 seconds, no rapid fire pictures with this badboy in its current state. That's the lag beween pushing the button and having photo available for review.

The button doesn't have a great feel for 2 stage press compared to my sony xz premium. Its "mushier", if you will.

Shutter lag I hope is software, but probably closer to 1 second than 2.
