They won't charge my N800 through my old-tip-2-new-tip converter. But such a converter should work OK with that 5V kit the earlier poster talked about.

Thanks for all that feedback. It looks like the CA-100 is exactly what I need. Going to look for one in downtown Chicago later today.

By the way, these are the batteries that I've been using:

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/...B10&tab=models

It's thin and light so one or two fit easily into my bag. The battery charges via USB and then powers other devices via USB so it's very handy.

The other thing I carry around to keep everything charged is this:

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/...?base_sku=UPA9

This is basically a replacement for my notebook charging brick (it comes with interchangable power tips for lots of different computer brands, and has a switch for different voltage levels). And it has a USB connector that can charge 2 USB devices at the same time the computer is charging.

I use this from Newegg and it does come with a tip that works in the 770. Assume its the same for the N800

BTW, anything charged from a USB port will take a long time since the amps on a USB port are far lower then the amps provided by the nokia charger. The device I mention above works much better as supplementary power then as a charger.

Well, I found a really nice Nokia store in Chicago, but they told me nobody would stock the CA-100 cable. The had a different kind, can't remember the number, but it had several different connectors for charging phones and I really wanted the simple wire.

So my next stop was the Nokia web site, but after spending 15 frustrating minutes looking around in their online "store" I couldn't find the thing.

Next stop Amazon. It took all of 3 minutes to find the cable and place the order. Here's the link if you need it:

Hybrid, I'm a chicago guy too (at times).. I went with the proporta usb recharger (someone previously mentioned it/posted pic). It gives me another battery lifetime + it came with the small nokia "tip" for the n800 (despite what pictures/etc display).

A word of caution... The unit found here from Boxwave:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/mini...a-e62_2097.htm
does not fit the Nokia N800 quite right... It's a bit too small (as has been stated previously in these forums, it wasn't a fluke...). It's very finicky about staying connected and charging if you ever so slightly move the N800. I'm in the process of returning mine now . The concept is perfect though. I wish I could find another unit that is retractable and supports USB and power like the Boxwave product.

I know I'm replying to an old post.. but did you buy the correct one? Boxwave seems to have a minisync cable specifically for the N800.. perhaps it wasn't available when fgullama ordered it..

Edit - Okay just checked other forum posts and folks seem to indicate that the Boxwave Minsync charging part is a little flaky. However, its not clear if folks ordered using the MiniSync N800 link or a Minisync for another device that "should" have a similar end.

Anyone try the Boxwave N800 Minisync?

I would try the dealextreme cable. They're cheap and they ship worldwide for free.
