GPS without internet assistance (A-GPS) just needs time and free sky and no car roof or window shields and and and

Elop blocked n900 devices accessing supl.nokia.com, so A-GPS is not working without changing supl-server address.

I have always had A-GPS off and I have no problems.
Yes, it's slow to get a fix if it's cloudy but never taken longer than 3-4 minutes; through the windscreen.

Yep, it appears Nokia have blocked N900 devices from using there supl server. This has been proved by successfully using a proxy on the Nokia servers.

Me too.
But if you do not have parts of almanach already downloaded (e.g. newly flashed) or moved far away from your last known position or did not use GPS for a long period, then it may take up to 12 minutes even under optimal conditions. So it just needs time (especiall yfor first fix) ....
The GPS chip in N900 is best I've ever used in a mobile device (except Garmin and Co of course )

sixwheeldbeast is that true? Did you check on your own? Or just rumour?
I really would like to knwo why my N900 does not get supl support (via WLAN), but my N97 still gets (via GPRS)!

Link not tested myself.
The three N900's I have access to, will not connect via Nokia but do via Google.
I am sure they used to work, but not using A-GPS much I couldn't put a timeframe on it.

I think it all came with PR1.3.1. Probably the certificate for supl.nokia.com expired, and the updated SSL certs that came with 1.3.1 didn't include it.

Older phones (e.g. my E75) probably don't check the certificate..

That would make sense.
All the devices I have played with have PR1.3.1 or CSSU Stable.
