OK...app is actually fixed and ready. I'm just having upload problems with Maemo Extras...
Gonna sleep on it, and try again in morning/afternoon.

Been trying all...day... and still nothing.
It wont even accept old files I've uploaded before, so I think Maemo Extras Assistant is down....

Keep ya posted.

Works very nicely as a webcam in Linux!

Note that VLC works in OSX too, not just windows and linux.

^ hey nice! I'll add it to the frontpage.

Okay, just checked around and some people seem to be confirming that Maemo Extras Assistant is down, so I can't update the repo's - sorry guys.

Edit: Working now - uploaded! Check your updates.

In this Update:
Fixes:
* Old VLC method brought back (less lag + reliability).
* New VLC (http) method fixed IP error preventing streaming
* Audio re-enabled (using old method).

New Features:
* File streaming. You can now stream video files using the default methods (no audio yet). This works for streaming camera recordings already saved on the device, and .avi, .mpg, and .mp4 files (though not for all).

* Ncurses version of the app. ``SPYCAM``
-- Can now ssh into phone from desktop and use app from terminal.
-- Can stream video front or back secretly.
-- Can make presence known by adjusting system volume, shouting out warnings, or playing music file *testing*

To use Ncurses SPYCAM:
1. ssh into your device with the -X flag ('ssh root@192.168.2.111 -X') where 192.168.2.111 = phone IP.
2. type 'ps-spycam'
3. Enjoy

Please leave feedback!
(e.g. which video files you couldn't stream, if 'cannot pre fill buffer' message appears in VLC for http method, etc.)

@phobus + AngryMasterYoda - try this update to see if it solves your problem.

For next update:
--Fix issue where spycam repeats first menu twice.
--Fix menu preventing VLC option streaming for windows users.
--Determine compatible file types for file streaming.
--Fix http streaming issue (no packets being sent) reported by A.M.Y and chill

Getting this version (0.9.2)...

1) Address: 192.168.1.X, Port: 9000
2) Type: Video, Quality: unchecked
3) To: HTTP (VLC)
4) Camera: Front, Size: 320x240

Stream!
Message: ... http://192.168.1.Y:9000
Message: streaming

On windows:
open VLC, ... , http://192.168.1.Y:9000
VLC says: "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://192.168.1.57:9000'."

3) To:VLC
- generating VLC sdp file... generated. send it to PC via bluetooth

Stream!
ProneStream says: "Please generate and send new file".

Firewall is off. Maybe problem with VLC on windows? How can I check this?

Ditto what Angry Master Yoda wrote.

I also tried to use Wireshark to capture outgoing packets from Phonestreamer destined for the IP address I entered, but Wireshark did not show any packets with that address. So it looks like no packets are being sent. This is using the http(VLC) method.

@ AngryMasterYoda - yeah that's a menu error I forgot to fix. It will be definitely be fixed by the next update. I just forgot it this time - sorry.

@chill - hmm...it seems a bit temperamental on my side; sometimes it works, sometimes not...I'm going to have a go at completely rewriting that method.

Thanks for the bug reports guys, I feel that we're almost there. I wanna get these problems fixed before the 1.0 release.

In addition to #245...

On Linux machine:

To: VLC (generating sdp, sending it - all ok) - works fine (I like it!).
To: HTTP (VLC) - same error as on windows.

Yeah I prefer the old method too - It's much more stable.
But http streaming is a good option and I think it's (almost almost) working.

Also - I just realized that the SPYCAM gives choppy video feed for low bandwidth networks. Can someone confirm this?
