To be honest, I use the FM feature quite often (car, GF's home stereo, etc) and it even turned out to have some educational value, as my GF was all of a sudden convinced of the importance of correct MP3 tagging, when she saw the song info nicely displayed on her car stereo screen, along with the tag Nokia N900.

I guess it just proofs Gerbicks' point that we all have our own way of using this device, according to our private preferences.

I am no phone expert, but as far as I can tell, the N900 is the most open phone I could possibly have right now. The N9 just doesn't appeal to me much. But truth be told: Before the N900 I have never ever been very enthusiastic about any phone I owned.

The idea of convincing manufacturers to get rid of their old stock by making maemo devices of them sounds intriguing, I must say.

I do find it bizarre that in none of the 4 countries I frequent (SP/NL/GE/UK) the N9 will be available. That does not look as if Nokia is really willing to stand behind Meego.

All platforms have APIs to interact with things, should we call iOS, WP etc "open" because of that too?

I don't think that is what CG was arguing.

Damn if they make it a N950 TMO limited edition and ride the bandwagon of hypebeasts and collab with some cool brand of some sort and set a premium price on it and have a 100 unit run or something, I would still try to make a way to get it. Just sayin.

I could go into a technical rant about this, but what you said is basically enough. The code that actually launches the apps is open source. I gave a glimpse for Maemo 5, and I just confirmed that applauncherd has similar hooks for Qt apps.

These Maemo/MeeGo OSes are the_sh*t; serious hacker's delight.

no one will target the true geeks with a mobile because this niche market couldn't be filled with one device nor three completely. The cause of this market "******ity" is the case that the biggest religious wars over HW ( keyb vs keyboardless, capacitive vs resistive, and so on) and Over SW are taking place between the true geeks.

Apple has shown you can make a killing with 15 to 20 percent of a given market. I'll bet most populations have that many geeks these days.
