I consider this VERY good news!!!

Thanks to Nokia and the Maemo devs!!!

Thanks also to Johnx and others here I finally have a decent Debian installation with KDE 3.5.9, Koffice, Iceweasel, and Iceape for mail. So I decided to add some other packages. . .

Since GarnetVM comes in handy, and is conveniently packaged as a .deb, I figured why not give it a go . . .

***
Setting up libhildon-1-0 (1.99.1.debian.1-1) ...
Setting up libhildonmime0 (1.10.1.debian.1-3) ...
Setting up libosso-dbus-conf (2.15.debian.1-1) ...
Setting up libosso1 (2.15.debian.1-1) ...
Setting up libhildonthumbnail0 (0.14-1) ...
Setting up libhildonfm2 (1:1.9.49.debian-1) ...

OK. So GarnetVM never made it in, but I now have a nice little collection of native Debian Hildon libraries. Most of the Maemo stuff is open source anyway. So it should not be too difficult to rebuild things such as a nice Maemoesque pop-up X keyboard, and also to port over the minimal amount of decent Maemo applications such as Canola, right??? Then we can have the best of both worlds, and a reasonably functional tablet without rebooting, which IMHO is the way it should be. . .
