Hi!
I'm a N900 user since last year and I'm having a lot of problems with it.
I use the power kernel, CSSU, no widgets and a few of app installed.
One of the biggest problem is that the phone becomes unusable after 3-4 days of no-reboot. It becames slow, does not alert me of new sms or missing call, and sometime doesn't allow me to answer incoming call, and it's frustrating!!
I've read of this bug on maemo community, so I used a script that reset hildon-home every day, but the problem still remains.

Another big problem is the alarm: sometime it just doesn't ring, even if the phone is always turned on!
Yesterday I lost my course lesson becouse of this problem.
I can't use a phone I cannot trust in.

Now, N900 is famous for the number of OS working on it, but:
  • android: phone function doesn't work
  • maemo: changed 2-3 times its name and has problems on n900
  • kubuntu: idem
Is there any REALLY WORKING OS that can be used instead of Maemo??
I don't want graphic dummy things, I just want a phone with linux kernel that works EVER and is FAST!

Any suggestion?

No, maybe Nemo or Cordia in the future but not in the near future...

Reflash your phone

Possible swap fragmentation....
Also possible you phone needs reflash.

Have a search on swap fragmentation and ways to combat it.

There's an application on the topic in development.

I must be the only one that doesn't use CSSU? lol
Saying that my alarm has always gone off

I'm not saying its CSSU!!!

If you use the recording app on calls, it does slow it down!
Disable it or play with its settings.
What apps do you run/have installed?

Sounds like it could be a swap or cache issue filling.

reflash or buy a N9
I had trust issues with my N900 before, but after Pr1.3 I was mostly satisfied with it, never missing alarm, mails or sms.
Sometimes I still missed calls because the phone would be changing five times its orientation when taking it out of the pocket, but by fixing the phone app to portrait it went much better.

rebooting every week-end helped a bit. At the end I had KP + CSSU, slightly OC, and it was acceptably trustable, except for the camera.

are you using cssu stable or testing?
i have no issues with stable....
i do think you need to flash your n900 back to factory..
also from my experience its better to drag and drop your files from the n900 to your desktop and then back to the n900 rather than doing a backup restore....
if youre wondering why...from experience sometimes after a restore you can actually "replace" the bug from the restore....
a fresh start usually gets rid of any probs...

After a few days, it's natural for the call UI to be swapped out.

I've had uptimes of over a week with heavy use, and at worst it takes 3 seconds for the ringer to start (Vibration starts first, then the screen unlocks, then the phone is brought up with the ringtone)

Check your Maemo installation for things that may affect performance (daemons, services, plugins, etc) and disable the ones you don't need, or don't use often.
