Yes. However, I was unable to get it to recognize any of the USB devices I tried it with.

Did you try a keyboard? That might be interesting to a lot of people.

(I used a cheap USB female-to-female adapter to link a working mini-B cable to the following

Two SD card readers, three different USB sticks, an externally-powered USB HD, and a Frogpad USB. No response.

Nothing in dmesg either: I tried both "otg" and "host" modes, switching to "peripheral" mode as advised in between. Occasional info from the patch popped up when switching modes, but never anything when a device was connected.

Nokia 770's USB controller requires 5V at the connector to switch on, even in the usb-host mode. Isn't it the same with N800? I had to buy a special USB hub which provided the host port with 5V power.

no.. you dont need an external power... because the n800 has a build-in 100mA power pump, it should be enough for connecting keybord/little usb stick...
but i think the 5th connector of the mini-usb must be grounded to the 4th one; to make the device recognice host-mode...

so again: could someone please post a ready compiled kernel?

Is that for real? Of all the things I've read, this is the first that mentioned the 770 needs 5v supplied to it's port for USB host mode to work.

Does this diagram also support my claim that the 770 does not need 5v for USB host mode to be active?

Can I use this Y-cable like so?
Plug one A end into a USB plug on a computer for power (it's going to be a car computer), plug the other A end into a A-male-to-A-female adapter with a device plugged into the A female plug, then the b mini into the Nokia?

I have a PSP data plus charging cable. In addition, I have a PSP car charger. Based on the pics below, if I connect the car charger 5v out to the 5v out on the cable, do you think it'll work as 5 v on the A end?

I think I understand the principle of injecting power into the USB line for the client device, but the schematic I posted is from a thread here on itT, and conflicts with the thoughtfix's schematic, which I've already seen while reading his blog. "TF" says the 770 needs power, another thread on here with the schematic above seems to say the 770 doesn't need power on its host end of the cable. Which is correct?

Can anyone comment on my specific ideas? They are narrow in scope to fit my scenario and needs. and want to know if ya'all think they'll work.

Actually I don't know if this is completely a safe method but here goes anyway. I purchased two different Digital Concepts (Multislot Memory card readers) I couldn't use them to read a card of any type however when I put them in host mode and replaced the readers with my maxtor 80gb external, I still got the same message within the usbserial app but then suddenly the filemanager popped up and walla my n810 was accessing the maxtor instantly, this sequence works with all of my usb memory sticks.

I seems to trick the device to thinking that it is reading from the cardslot reader for some odd reason.
