How hard would this be, I know there is a version for android. My wife wants to watch my-home-tv (a macedonian pay for service) and none of the players (mplayer, kmplayer or maemo media) play the files, it is suggested to use real player. real player 32bit edition works fine on my ubuntu laptop...

Any chance of porting real player? I have no idea how much work this would be as I am pretty much at the "hello world" stage of learning programming...

i would suggest not as real player is closed source, but surely the question is "Is there any players that can play/record etc in a certain format?"

As the application isn't key here, rather the format. ie mplayer + codecs etc? (Aware this example doesnt work - but you need to find the specific codec required etc)

could try compilng helixplayer the OS version of realplayer. It includes some stuff from realplayer not found in vlc/mplayer etc so you might be lucky. Could also try the x86 version under a qemu chroot, if it's talking mostly syscalls for network and X11 it might actually be fast enough
