On the Download page:

http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/

It shows GPodder in the "Fresh" link with todays date (11/03/10) and shows a version number 2.3-1. Is this an new update?

Mine version shows as 2.3 in "About" but I can't get an update from extras nor can I manually update by following the link on the GPodder page.

No, the package has just been promoted to Extras. It's the same version as available in Extras-Testing & Devel.

`dpkg -l | grep gpodder` will show you the version string stored in the package manifest. And you can view package building, submissions and what not, on the page for the package.

'apt-cache show gpodder' will pretty much vomit up EVERYTHING you'll want to know about the package you have installed on your system, too.
