Now that windowsmaker, openbox, and KDE all run on these Nokia platforms (thanks to penguinbait), I was wondering if we can increase the desktop resolution, creating a virtual desktop. In X.org or XFree86, if you set a desktop resolution larger than your display modes, the desktop automatically becomes a virtual desktop which is scrollable. (i.e. 1620x1200 on a 840x480 screen, viewing only 840x480 sections of the desktop at one time).

I found /etc/osso-af-init/x-server.defs which defines the resolution but changing it and rebooting has no effect. Does anyone know the proper approach? Where are the X11 configuration files located?

i've found some reasons to become interested in the same issue.

Nokia-N810-36-5:~# Xomap --help

gives me:

-screen WIDTH[/WIDTHMM]xHEIGHT[/HEIGHTMM][@ROTATION][X][Y][xDEPTH/BPP{,DEPTH/BPP}[xFREQ]] Specify screen characteristics

i wonder how safe it is to mess around with inserting this switch into the configuration file.
