I have been using syncevolution on my n900 successfully for a long time. After the last major update (I am using SSU) it is broken. When I try to reinstall, it asks for libpcre3, and I have spent hours trying to find a place to install that from - none of them seems to work any more.

I am getting quite desperate now, since that kills the main function I was using the n900 for.

Does anyone have a valid way to get libpcre3?

I don't know the package, so it might harm your device, but have you considered using the force option for dpkg?

See:

do this and try in this way

Code:
cd /home/user/MyDocs
wget http://repository.maemo.org/pool/maemo5.0/free/p/pcre3/libpcre3_6.7-1osso1+r1_armel.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite pcre3/libpcre3_6.7-1osso1+r1_armel.deb

Thank you, with some small modifications ("dpkg -i --force-overwrite libpcre3_6.7-1osso1+r1_armel.deb", rather than "dpkg -i --force-overwrite pcre3/libpcre3_6.7-1osso1+r1_armel.deb") this seems to have done the job!

I am also amazed how quickly your help arrived - so thanks tremendously.
