I'm having significant problems with my N900 since the eMMC broke off the mainboard. Most of them I've got worked out, except for chat/IM.

After I reflash the 1.3 FIASCO image, IMs work after the first boot.
As soon as I reboot the phone, they no longer work. Once I select a contact to message, it brings me immediately back to the previous screen - the IM/chat window doesn't even open.

I sent a few test messages to the Skype test service (echo123) before I rebooted, and they went through, came back etc. If I open the Conversations app now, the message is still there and I can read the last message sent in the main SMS/IM window. If I try to open the actual conversation, the window will open, but the text does not appear - blank window.

When sending messages to the phone through IM elsewhere (i.e. Skype/gmail chat on laptop), while I'm "Available" on the N900, the messages go through (the laptop clients know I'm online), but the N900 does not receive them, or at least does not display them or acknowledge them in anyway.

There is no problem with SMSs, and yes, I am online and "Available." Same effect between gmail/Skype, with/without restored backup in backup manager, etc.

Basically, I'm trying to now figure out what changes between the first boot after reflashing, and the following reboot, that would cause this to break. Is there anyway of viewing if files were deleted, configs changed, anything like that, from the last reboot?

Thanks

I'm currently reading these two topics:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=69475
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=40

I had read the first one before to no avail, but maybe there's new information now. My original question stands, but it looks like I have something else I can check.

On a side note, if I change my status to "Offline," I can read the old Skype conversation again (no blank window). Of course that doesn't help me with sending new IMs, but it does make it sound like an interesting resource sharing/permission problem.

Hmm. How you can be so sure that only eMMC is broken after you dropped it?

As mentioned in first post, yes. I'm not sure if they're stored in the same sqlite3 database or not... but now that I think about it, it seems to be a problem with reading/writing to that database while "Available." But only after the first reboot.

2nd edit: chat & sms are both stored in the same db, in el-v1.db in /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger.

edit: sorry, I missed the word "only." Well because some things function initially, and the rest I can fix through some tweaking with symlinks & moving things & making SD card partitions. Then things like chat break when I reboot (with or without the other tweaks having been made). I've seen no other reason to believe there's a hardware problem elsewhere.
