Does anyone know how to properly change the hostname on the N900?

When I SSH to the N900 I get "Nokia-N900-42-11". When I run "uname -a" I also get Nokia-N900-42-11

I've read that you can change it by editing the /etc/hostname file using VI and making the corresponding change in a file called /etc/hosts (which currently reads "127.0.0.1 Nokia-N900-42-11 localhost".

Has anyone tried to change the hostname? Will there be any other impact to be aware of? Could this break something?

I changed mine quite a while ago. No side effects I've seen at all.

Thanks, did you change it in both places I outlined above, or just one?

I'd actually just changed /etc/hostname, but I've changed the other one as well now. Nothing on the system should actually use the hostname for anything though (except for cosmetic things like logging) - it'll use localhost if it needs to connect locally.

No problems here. Just follow the instruction on the board and never see that ridiculous Nokia-N900-42-11 anymore.

could you please point me in the direction of the instructions on the board, which you refer to?

I changed my hostname and on a slightly related topic, also added a password to the user userid with no ill effect. I did the latter so I could login remotley as user.
