ahhh... was that the number that they corrected when (who was it? engadget?) claimed they had only sold so few N900s? and then nokia said that was during the first 5 weeks, not in total? was that it? if so, it's not onle "more than 100,000", it's probably "a multitude of 100,000". - last time i checked the N900 was still among amazon germany's best selling 3G phones. (even among the top 10 IIRC)

Just a question for my personal interest. Will you pay for an application which is open source in OVI but it is not free of charge?

Depends on many factors.

Do I know where to get the application for free? Is it in Extras, properly packaged? Or would I have to download the sources and compile them myself?
What price are we talking about? €0,90 or €20?
How big is the "Thank You"-factor, in other words: How likely is it I would donate anyway (and find the price in the Ovi Store a good donation)?

If there's an application I could download and compile for Maemo for free... but I could also get the packaged binary from the store, I'd most probably pay for the convenience. Not € 50,-, of course, but I'd pay.

Those €0,90-apps wouldn't even make me look for gratis alternatives. If I like it, I click "download" without thinking too much. It's just money after all.

On the other hand, if something I use regularly is both in Extras and in the Ovi Store, I'd use the version from Extras any time, no matter what price tag in has in the Store. Extras makes sure I get updates if they're available. I have not seen this for payed applications from the Ovi Store.

Then, finally, there's these applications you donate for. The usual procedure is through PayPal, which I find clumsy. I might just download an application from the Ovi Store (and pay for it) even if I already have the free version installed just to avoid the PayPal-hassle.
