My timeline :

1997 : Motorola d600 (could run on 4 penlite (AA) batteries)
1999 : Nokia 3210
2001 : Siemens S45 (still the best 'simple' phone)
2006 : Qtek 8310 (WM *yuck*)
2010 : Nokia N900
