If you delete/uninstall all scim related stuff, using the application manager, the virtual keyboard will come back. Legality aside, the best experience you will get in browsing international sites is to copy arialuni.ttf from your Window XP to usr/share/fonts/. One excellent font for almost all languages! For input, try googling for web-based input. For example, for Chinese, I use:
