The hardware itself is capable of charging at 1250, so either they picked 950 because that's the maximum achievable with 2mm charging system, and there's alot of wtf-ish emulating of 2mm system ontop of this proper charger inside N900... Or, it was picked because it's 0.7C and max for battery..
The 2mm connector limits will be explored when i get some better battery's. as of now im charging with 1A and there is no problems or heat.

Charge rate really swings all over the place, some can have as little as 0.3C and some can have 3C
Some power battery's that will probably not be used in a phone have about 12C.
