There are two searches. Note that behavior will somewhat depend on search provider, but general idea is summarized below.

Plain search looks for something that's unique on the Planet. So, you are expected to search for address, including country component. For Starbucks, make it unique - something like "Starbucks, street, town"

Nearby search looks for objects near reference coordinate. In this aspect, you specify your location and search string as "Type". For OSM Scout Server, type and name are entered separately (Starbucks should be in a name) type could be "Any" or cafe, I presume. For other providers, you could use name as a type.
