My quick hack for the Jolla C was to use cron to run gpscon a few minutes before I need the fix. (I used tout=60 and runs=5).

Then a few minutes later my python script runs, and works through the gpscon log, from the bottom up, looking for a fix with suitable horizontal accuracy.

It's been running for months with no problem, I only looked back into it because my python script wouldn't run on the X at first - something to do with dbus-python and something else in my regex, nothing at all to do with gpscon
