IMHO, Kodi, fka XBMC, really isn't a very good media server anyway. So a build of Kodi without the UPnP server is no big loss. "Media Sharing" on the N9 makes a better media server. I'm sure somewhere there's someone with a "Kodi as server" setup that proves me wrong, but for my purposes having a MythTV backend acting as a server and Kodi in the living room as a "wife proof" front end is a better solution.

Kodi is much better suited to the role of media consumer, and that's how I'd imagine using it on my N900, too. OTOH, much of its functionality in that role can be replicated with other Maemo applications. E.g., N900 Media Player is really nice as a combination UPnP renderer/controller, and there are a number of acceptable media clients for various online services.

But who am I kidding, anyway? The "normals" will just get one of many low-cost set top over-the-top boxes for paid spyware, ad-ridden services and call it good.
