Lotta questions there

1st - the battery post hack is meant more as a stationary rather than travel...power surging stuff and all with car charging equip I believe.

2nd- there are a lot options for web...each have their plus and minus...greasemonkey ain't bad...iceweasel is good too.

3rd- the best options for powersaving are
a- set your illumination to 33ish (via ASUI)
b- disable audio (via ASUI) can't hear a thing though
c- disable BT and wifi (via ASUI)
d- set your customized battery settings also
e- disable the media player from doing refreshing via the ASUI (this cuts alot of waste)
f- use kilikali (music) and mplayer(video)... for a smaller footprint
there are more ...that just don't come to mind at the moment.
All this (but killing the audio ) should get you back up to 7 hours/ 10 days(standby) use ...As things stand...the fixes and conservation is worth updating to diablo turbo...since right now you are running with all the lights on...the microwave running. ..air-conditioner blasting....jacuzzi bubbling....the heat cranked up...and everything else too ...it's no wonder you are getting only 2 hours....ALSO...if you turn it on...leave it on...power on and off sucks at the battery every time by 2hour jolts...so better to leave it on.

4th-It's the fact that it is the file system types...windows does not play at all with linux partition types...ie ext2,3,4 ...linux can play with fat32 and ntfs...so it is allllll about the types in your windoze pc partition, the n8x0 machines partition and the sd card os partition....their ordering and how they interact....windows insists that fat or ntfs must be 1st in the order and there can only be 1 partition and will not recognize the others.Hence simply won't see it if connected via n8x0 sd card...it's there...just can't get at it.
Also win doesn't like the whole play nice with other partitions in the sandbox bully thingy ...So on the n800 (at least) your pc can recognize the on board n800 file systems because they have been set up to recognize and play well with windows...If you multiboot esp off an sd card you are not playing by windows rules so it won't play. It has nothing to do with nokia or linux or maemo....or some wizardry getting things to work...it's..just windows and the ugly methods that are truly inadequate today that you cope with.Think of it ...like this...An OS is like a house...the partitions (inside the house) are like rooms (in any given room there may be another possibly different OS or many...ie. multibooting....box within a box idea)...to get to the bathroom of a house you have to enter the house...go through rooms to get to the bathroom...windows interaction with the os on sd card doesn't understand the process...doesn't get that there can be more than one room in the house...why it has to go "through" the house... why it can't just go straight to the bathroom...so you see it ALLLL "Depends" ...get it!?!?! "Depends" ? haheehe...oh my...well those who know of the adult diaper will get it...ahhh just when you think bodily function humour was dead eh? ...anyway back to topic....and conclusion...So...this ultimately is why linux works the way it does and windows works the way it does. How this relates directly to your n8x0 is that your device can play with both parties...you just gotta know the rules of the game they play. As an admonishment...I don't detest windows..I love xp tablet!...use it for alot of artwork on my convertible tablets when I have time 'tween carving...usually over the winter....but windows (sigh)...they could try to be more compat and less combat with linux...linux ultimately is the future...they won the desktop wars...pretty much the laptop wars... the smartphone wars... the same...hell....when nasa replaces it's systems with linux.....THAT says something. They need to work with...not compete..anyway...time to stop droning on.
The benefits of your system ON the sd card are multitudinous love the word...saves system wear and tear on device...increases space for more storage and programs...you can copy your os for safe keeping on or off you device....and with ext3 and ext4 types if your system boinks ...it simply reboots and repairs it...alllllll on it's lonesome....for myself ...lately I simply have a 16gb card internally for the os and programs I want to have...my easily removable external storage I pack with the compleat works of shakespeare by the bbc actors guild (video)....the prisoner...etc..ALLL my fav movies...music ...Audio books, plays and Old time radio, and on another I have ALLLLL my books....not sure how many way...way up there...in the hundred thousands....from my faves on sacred geometry, gnosticism and hermetic studies to the finest in ranxerox ... ... From my perspective it is worth it.
