I studied computer science at the uni some 25-30 years ago and it was the sign of the times then already. Our course was split into two streams, hardware and software. I took the hardware path, but we had some classes together. I was really astonished when one of the software instructors boasted that the programmers can use up any resources the hardware designers can throw at them. I did not understand it then and I still do not understand it now, how on earth is that supposed to be something to be proud of? Should you not be boasting how frugally you use resources, not how wastefully?
