It was hot on that beach, air temperature about 100F/38C. In the midday sun I'd guess the sand was somewhere around 125-145F or ~52-63C. It was painful to walk on, but at least sand doesn't conduct very well . . . still I kept moving quickly . . .

Also we managed to book a beach house (6 months in advance) in what would then be the hottest spot of covid-19 in the US, the "Redneck Riviera," spanning from approximately New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle. With an under 12-year-old along, you bet we stayed outside when other people were around in the vigorously air-changing gulf coast winds.

(Fun fact: I've learned from job experience that cardboard at 85C/185F is very hot to the touch but doesn't actually burn skin.)
