after several "not available" messages for N900 users where telling I thought about setting up "professional" mirroring would be usefull for our community repositories.

For this we need:
  • an official mirror list in our wiki
  • rsync at the repository.maemo server
  • requests send out to mirrors (univerities) all over the planet
and maybe a policy (we should follow what ubuntu and debian does).

For this we could setup:
  • a mirror URL for traffic sharing (forget it, apt is not able to follow http-redirects...how do I cross text?)
  • regional mirror URLs
  • nokia to include it with HAM to have a fallback for future server issues
what do you think?
