I just got a Motorola DEXT for $100, its the perfect back up phone. It's basically an iPhone 3G, but with a decent qwerty, better camera/memory and a much better OS (CM7 - 2.3.4). I previously also got a Motorola Milestone for $200 -> Gift. I missed out on purchasing a HTC Desire Z for $250. I would've paid much more for the EPIC 4G if it had GSM-3G radios, stupid Samsung! Now I'm just waiting for a decent dualcore qwerty upgrade, Milestone3 looks promising if it comes with unlocked bootloader+rootable and 1GB of RAM.
