Mine just arrived today. Finally it feels like a big n900 just as it should. It is working great, except the 'a'-key requires a bit more pressure but you could fix that as described here...

Nice! I 'm also using a modified version of backupmenu and fbcon in order to have an encrypted home partition. Now it would be great to also try that on a jolla but as long as there isn't even a way...

If that is still an issue, for the keyboard layout: just put "@setxkbmap de" in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart in your debian chroot for the german layout...

I can confirm that. after turning that off the initial sluggishness was gone.

Another thing that works great is amule. especially when ICH and encryption is disabled.

yes of course it has to support links and so on. fat won't suffice.
and yes /dev can be backed up. in my expierience restoring the whole system with rsync in that way alsways worked...

if you are willing to use the terminal then you can use rsync.
after becoming root and adding the devel repository you can get it with apt-get install rsync
then you could use:
rsync -avHl...
