The LED doesn't change colour - it just flashes faster.
The icon of 2 people changes from blue-and-purple to green-and-red.

Eventually I did - but only after I re-enabled the non-Nokia repos, for some reason. Installed fine - but everything's very orange! It takes maybe 2-3 seconds to to take a photo - can't see much use...

I don't think the bluetooth and network icons should be combined - I (sometimes) use a bluetooth keyboard, and that's independent of whether I am connected to a wifi network.

Try taking the battery out for a couple of minutes, put it back, and flash again? I had problems with constant rebooting but managed to get it back (with no reflashing) just by taking out the battery...

Yes the headphone socket actually has 4 connections on it. The headphones that come with the N800 have a mike built into the little box where the wire splits to the buds.
