You can use "Ring2Skype" and get a free number -- http://www.ring2skype.com/
That'll save you the $60 for a SkypeIn.

The quality on the N900 isn't bad.. I've used it a couple...

You're gonna need a SkypeIn number. I believe it's $20 for 3 months, so $80/year.

After you've got that, along with the full year, then yes, all incoming/outgoing calls will be free.

I had the G1 last also. :)

The thing you'll notice with the N900 is the speed increase over it. It'll take you a good 24 hours to get a great feel of the phone along with the customization aspect...
