The dir command is "ls" or "ls -l". Read a tutorial about the [Linux] shell if you want to use it.
You can install a GUI file manager (from maemo) if you prefer this. I don't know how to run GUI...

Use a plain text editor, there are some on maemo.org/downloads. You can create a plain text file on the tablet, copy it to your desktop and import it in word.

I believe the middle-of-the-screen line wraps aren't automatic wraps, those newlines are part of the message you received. Try maximizing claws or changing the font size.

As others pointed out before, Nokia doesn't provide PIM and office applications. Open source developers do. If you want/need PIM you've got several options, none is perfect, most is beta/unfinished...
